Pre-Trip Training Session 3

The delegates had a little surprise today as they were introduced to the iPod Touch which they will be carrying with them during the Homestay Programme. The device will be loaded with Apps that will allow the delegates to document their experience and also aid them in communicating in the Japanese language.

After some explanation on how to use the iPod Touch, the delegates began their first lesson using the My Japanese Coach App.

Delegates here picked up simple conversational Japanese in a fun and interactive manner. They were more than happy to be learning through play.

By the look of their faces, you can see the intensity of learning that went on.

The App teaches the delegates all three skills of speaking, listening and writing the Japanese language.

Below are some videos of what happened in class today.

Pre-Trip Training Session 2

Second week into the training and this week's emphasis is on some of the basic Japanese etiquette. The delegates were also given a glimpse of what to expect when they browsed through the 2008 programme.

Mdm Wong here showing the delegates what the delegates in 2008 had experienced in the 2008 Homestay programme.

Some of the social etiquette in Japan and each delegates received a copy of the handout practise and remember before the trip.

Delegates taking the learning very seriously as they do not want to be 'rude' unintentionally when in Japan.

The delegates practise what they have learned. Above is a video of what they should do before and after a meal.

Pre-Trip Training Session 1

This blog will be tracking and reporting the delegates participating in the Japan Homestay Programme 2010. Stay tune for pictures and videos what they will be experiencing before and during the learning Journey.

Training begins as early as two months before the 28 delegates set off to the Land of the Rising Sun; Japan. In order for the pupils to fully appreciate the country, they need to learn the basics in conversational Japanese.

That's just what the pupils underwent today during the first session. Let's take a look at what went on...

Lesson 1 introduced the pupils to Hiragana which they will learn how to phonetically express themselves in basic Japanese. The pupils also had a chance to try out their newly acquired language skills with their friends.

Since it's the first time time for most of them; mistakes are abound which drew pretty much laughter during the lesson.

However, everyone is very serious about their own learning and is putting in a lot of effort to pick up the language.

Until the next session, they will be busy revising at their own time what they have learned today.
